What is Ecstasy?

Ecstasy is the slang term for MDMA, a synthetic chemical compound which acts as a stimulant. Ecstasy causes the user to feel friendly, outgoing, talkative, and energetic. Users may also experience sweats, chills, nausea, vomiting, and increased heart rate and blood pressure. Ecstasy is dangerous because it’s rarely pure MDMA – it’s usually a mix of amphetamines, PCP, cocaine, and dextromethorphan (found in cough syrup).
